Fsnap FAQ
Fsnap is a free, no-sign-up web app for saving restaurants: paste links from Google Maps, Instagram, Threads or Facebook and they become a list of notes with names, photos and tags. Here are the most common questions.
What is Fsnap?
Fsnap is a web app (PWA) for saving restaurant links: when you see a place you want to try on Google Maps, Instagram, Threads or Facebook, paste the link into Fsnap and it is saved as a note with the name, a preview photo and tags.
It runs in your browser, so there is nothing to download from the App Store or Google Play; add fsnap.app to your home screen to use it like an app.

Is Fsnap free?
Yes. Fsnap is free to use, there is no paid plan and no ads.
The only condition: before your first CSV/JSON export you tap “Share to Unlock” once (share Fsnap with your phone’s share sheet, or copy the share text). Importing a backup is always available.
Do I need to sign up or log in?
No. Open fsnap.app and start using it; regular users have no account and never enter an email or phone number.
Where are my notes stored? Can the developer see them?
Your notes are stored in your browser on this device (IndexedDB), not on Fsnap’s servers, and the developer cannot read your list.
That also means notes do not sync to other devices, and clearing the site’s browser data or removing the app deletes them, so make a JSON backup from “Import / Export Data” now and then.
Good to know: when you save a link, the URL is sent to the third-party preview service Microlink to fetch the name and photo, and this site has anonymous usage stats enabled, which record only an anonymous ID, feature-use counts and a coarse traffic-source category — never your notes’ URLs, names or content (and never your location, preview image or description). See the privacy policy for details.

Which links can I save?
Google Maps links (including maps.app.goo.gl short links), Instagram posts and Reels, Threads posts, Facebook posts, and any other http/https web link.
Fsnap tags each note by source, such as “Map”, “IG”, “Threads”, “FB” or “Web”, and adds tags like “Pref:Ramen” when the title or description contains a known keyword.

How do I find a place when I have lots of notes? Can I make my own categories?
Yes. The home screen has a search box and a tag row: search matches the name, link, tags and categories, tapping a tag or category shows only that group (tap again to clear), and search and filter work together.
The pencil button on each card edits the name and tags and adds your own categories (for example “Date night”, “Late night” or “Taichung”); a note can be in several categories. The “Categories” button next to the search box renames, merges or deletes categories, and deleting a category never deletes notes. Everything stays on your device and is included in JSON backups and CSV exports.
Why does an Instagram or Threads link show no photo or name?
Instagram, Threads and Facebook often require login or limit outside access, so the link preview service may only return a default image, and the title shows as “未命名連結” (untitled).
The link is still saved and opening the note takes you back to the original post. Type the restaurant name before the link when you paste it (for example “Ming Ramen https://www.instagram.com/p/...”) and Fsnap uses your text as the title.

Does Fsnap work on iPhone? Can I share from Instagram directly to Fsnap?
Fsnap works on iPhone, but you cannot pick Fsnap from the Share menu of Instagram, Threads or Google Maps, because iOS does not let web apps receive shares.
On iPhone, tap Share → Copy link in the original app, then open Fsnap, tap + and “Paste from clipboard”, and save. On Android, after installing Fsnap you can choose it directly in the share sheet.

How do I add Fsnap to my home screen?
Open fsnap.app in your browser and choose “Add to Home Screen” to use it like an app, without the App Store or Google Play.
iPhone: open it in Safari → tap Share → “Add to Home Screen” → “Add”. Android: open it in Chrome → tap the menu → “Install app” or “Add to Home screen”.
Does Fsnap work offline?
Yes for browsing: once you have opened Fsnap online, you can open it offline and view your saved notes.
You can still add links offline, but the name and photo preview cannot be fetched, so the note is saved with the name you typed (or “未命名連結”, untitled) and a default image.
How do I back up my notes or move to a new phone?
Open “Import / Export Data” in the menu, tap “Full JSON backup” to download a file (it includes edited names, tags and custom categories), then open Fsnap on the new device and use “Import JSON backup”.
You can also export CSV for Excel or Google Sheets. Exporting requires a one-time “Share to Unlock”; importing is always available. JSON merges by note ID and CSV skips links that already exist. Files are processed on your device and never uploaded.
Does Fsnap use my location?
Only if you want distance tags and agree; Fsnap never asks for location when the page opens.
Your location is used only on your device to calculate the distance to each restaurant and add tags like “Nearest” (within 1 km), “Nearby” (within 5 km) or “Cross-region”. It is never sent to the developer or any third party.
Does Fsnap use AI to recognize restaurants?
No. Tags come from simple rules based on the link’s source and keywords in the name or description; there is no AI recognition and photos are not analyzed.
Names and photos come from the link’s public preview data, so if the preview fails, type the restaurant name before the link.
